![]() ![]() It was a total success and encouraged me to explore more options. I quickly discovered that making ice-cream is quite simple and straightforward! One of my first creations was a delicate rosemary infused pear sorbet. I asked for advice among my friends and settled for a Cuisinart with a double insulated freezer bowl that you keep in your freezer. Chop or shave dark chocolate, ¾ cup, and add into freezing ice cream during the last 2 to 3 minutes of churning. (Quantity may vary if you use a different brand, so taste to be sure.) Mint Chocolate Chip Substitute vanilla extract with ¾ tsp. I was not very happy with the ice-cream options we could find at the store, even with the “healthy” brands because they still contain ingredients not compliant with the autoimmune protocol. Peppermint Substitute vanilla extract with ¾ tsp. I started making homemade ice-cream only recently when I finally purchased an ice-cream maker off the internet. This vanilla ice-cream is dairy free, nut free, egg free, and low-FODMAP! What is there not to like? ![]() Then you can source your glycerine without GMOs. So making your own alcohol-free vanilla extract is the way to go. However, often glycerine is made from corn or soy, so that's a whole other problem. While I do not advocate eating a lot of paleo treats on a regular basis, I think that we all need a little something sweet from time to time. If you want an alcohol-free vanilla extract, you need vegetable glycerine for steeping the vanilla beans. This vanilla ice-cream is a crowd-pleaser and will be a hit for everyone in your family. It gets the job done, but I wish I had kept the dedicated ice cream maker as it was much easier to work with.You won’t need much time to prepare this delicious and healthy paleo vanilla ice-cream! With only three ingredients, it is probably one of the easiest frozen treats you can prepare in a pinch. I used to have an earlier model version, but in a fit of decluttering, I decided to replace it with this attachment to my Kitchenaid Mixer. You also need an ice cream maker! This is the model I recommend… You can make this with a cheaper “regular” blender, but it may not be as smooth. Speaking of blenders, you are going to need one for this recipe anyway, so why not also use it to make your own coconut milk! Best case scenario would be for you to make your own coconut milk – which actually isn’t as hard as you think it would be, as long as you have a high speed blender. If you have a Trader Joe’s location near you, you can get cans there without any additives but they are not labeled as BPA-free, so I worry about the health impact of the packaging. I used to recommend a particular imported brand, but have recently begun to suspect that they are not truthfully labeling their products. ![]() You need to be very careful when you buy coconut milk because many brands, even ones in health food stores, have emulsifiers added to them so the cream and the liquid don’t separate as much. A pure vanilla powder such as this brand will keep it AIP-compliant, but using regular vanilla extract will actually make the ice cream a little bit softer and easier to serve after being in the freezer for several days because of the alcohol content. You can skip the vanilla entirely, but I think it adds a nice dimension to the flavor and helps it have an even more chocolate-like quality. Just be sure you double check the labeling to make sure it doesn’t have any added ingredients and was packaged in a gluten-free facility, such as this brand. I’ve had experience with several different brands of carob powder and they do seem to perform similarly. But the natural sweetness of roasted carob powder works perfectly in a recipe like this that doesn’t have any refined sugar added. I also caution against simply using roasted carob powder as a 1:1 alternative for cocoa powder in a standard baked good recipes. Strain the beans, which you can save for later use, and refrigerate the mixture until you are ready to use it. If it is too strong, add some milk until you reach the desired flavor. Obviously you should omit the vanilla extract to stay. Let the mixture cool and taste for flavor. Plantain is a great substitute for banana and in this recipe it helps to stop the pancakes from drying out. Ingredient notes Carob as an alternative to chocolateįorget about all the store bought carob chips for AIP unfortunately none exist without any added ingredients that would make them fully compliant. Ingredients: green plantains, coconut milk, coconut oil, apple sauce, gelatin egg, coconut flour, baking soda, cinnamon, sea salt.
